WANGANUI PLAYER WINS THE TROMBONE SOLO. (Rec. Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, October 19. The champion cornet solo contest at the Ballarat competitions concluded at midnight. Fifty-three competitors liad entered, but some -had scratched." The Trombone Solo resulted as follows:—Welling (Wanganui), 1; Shackles (Ballarat), 2; Thomas (Victoria), 3. The winner was three points ahead of the second man. In the quartettes competition, Echuca (Victoria) was first, Northey's (Wanganui) second, and Collin gwoocl were third, and Buckley's (Wanganui) fourth. Wanganui were unplaced in the trombone trio and bass solo.
