ATTEMPTED ARSON.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) •AUCKLAND, Last Night. Attempts were made'to burn down two shops in the Eden Terrace suburb early this morning. A kit filled with light wood and saturated with kerosene was found well ablaze by two passers-by in the recess ,of a doorway of Hutchens's shop. The flames were just lapping the window frames, but the threatened conflagratiQii was averted. About the same time another man discovered a tin of kerosene and rags afire in a shed adjoining Cole's boot shop. The fire was extinguished with some difficulty.
