NEW ZEALAND WINE.
HASTINGS, Last Night. The Fruitgrowers' Conference today resolved: "That the Government be urged to exempt Now Zealand wine from the operation of the Licensing Act, and favourably consider the wine industry as such, as the Government had encouraged the people to invest their capital in the growing of grapes and the production of wine." The conference also expressed the opinion that a greater consumption of the pure juice of the grape would reduce the amount of drunkenness in the Dominion. A resolution was passed protesting against the small duty imposed 011 South African wine, and urging that the duty be raised to 55., the samo as on other imported wines.
