SCHOOL GARDEN COMPETITIONS.

I A movement lias been made in Masterton in the direction of providing a shield for competition amongst the various schools which have agricultural plots. The idea is an excellent one so far as it goes. It would have been better, however, had the initiative been taken by the Masterton A. and P. Association, and the trophy been provided by that body. The plots could then have, been supervised by the Agricultural Experiments Committee, the trophy exhibited at the annual shows, and the produce of the gardens compared in the prod ace hall at the show grounds, so far as the season will permit. The Trust Land* Trustees might reasonably be tski.'d to subsidise any vote made for the purpose by the 4. and P. Association.
