THE FIRE SERVICE.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —I notice, by yesterday morning's paper that some would-be wit is trying to make fun at the expense of the Fire Police. It is all very well for him to say that there are three distinct lots,' but as it happens the same lot that go to the Town Hall go to the fires, and not only sometimes either, rle does not seem to consider that a crowd is not a very pleasant thing to handle at a fire, neither does he seem to realise ,/- what there is in salvage or ambulance 1 work. But I might say, as far as I J am concerned, I take not the least notice of his would-be sarcasm. Thanking you for your very valuable •space.—l am, etc., "RESIDENT OF EIGHT YEARS' STANDING."
