NO-LICENSE IN MASTERTON.

r (To the, Editor.) Sir, —I have read with Lugo interest the "epistle to the Ep'icsii.us" in your columns of yesterday from Mi-.. Cecil J. Tocker, would-be reverend, etc.,. concerning the effect of No4icense in Ivlasterton and my letters on the subject. He evidently took on the task of Samson by en-

deavouring to slay his foe with the jawbone of a gentleman with, long rfur.s, and has utterly and ignomini'pusly failed in his object, and abjectly crawled down. If he had the •courage of his opinions he would have> answered my last letter in detail, particularly when he invited me " in his letter to prove by facts that .what he had asserted was incorrect. He, however, like all the others of his calibre, lacks the necessary backbone, and after his original declamatory utterances, we- find that "the mountains havs laboured and brought forth a little mouse." The next time the No-license party want a champion let "Cecil" get behind the biggest fence he can find, and wait there •until someone calls for him to go to afternoon tea. He will not "conA. descend" to discuss the subject with Ijk me because he knows he has got ahsolutely the worst of the controversy, and with his rash and exaggerated statements concerning the effect of I No-license in Masterton, has put his foot into the mud so far that he will probably have to get his leg amputated, or will Avant it further pulled to ;get his boot back. I cheerfully await any further' remarks from "the God's own truth" cleric, or any other gentleman, reverend or otherwise, who is prepared to take up the running, but I do not want them to start violently, and then suddenly show the white feather, as my time is more or less valuable.—l am, etc., .. a J. J. KELLIHER.
