AMUSEMENTS.
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. Measr3 Thompson and Payne are keeping their high standard in cinematographic entertainments, and last night's change of pictures are well up to the mark. Shakespeare's play, "King Lear," is screened in a manner that simplifies the plot, so that those not familiar with the play can easily follow it. "The Shyness of Shorty" is a Wild West story, and a derormed cowboy, who is what the Americans term a bad man, succumbs to the charms of a yuung lady, and makes a name for himself by capturing a gang of hoise thieves. "Percy the Cowboy"' was perhaps the favourite picture of the evening. This film depicts an effeminate young man who wishes to marry a wealthy man's daughter. Percy is duly delivered into the hands of a rancher who has instructions to make a man of him. The rancher turns Percy over to the cowboys, and their methods, though rough and productive of great mirth, prove successful, and Peicy is returned to | his fiancee- in gouff trim, and all ends well. The remainder of the | films are all of the best quality.
