FIRE PREVENTION.
Is Masterton paying too dearly for the protection it is receiving, from the Fire Brigade and Fire Police, against the devastations of fire? This question at once suggests itself by a perusal of the annual report of the Superintendent of the Masterton Fire Brigade. The Fire Brigade and Fire Police are both efficient bodies under efficient officers, but the former" body appears to think that the latter is not required. The Fire Board , apparently takes' a different view, and probably it is right. It would be interesting to know how Masterton compares with townships of similar: size in this respect.
