TURF NOTES.
(By "Zetland.")
Tikitere, a Mew Zealand Cup candidate, jarred one of her joints recently, and has to be eased in her work. The unruly Wirrall is being put into work' again, and is expected to compete in hurdle races very
shortly. The Waijganui Guineas winner, , Danube, is to make n s next public appearance in the Champion Plate at Trentham this month. Horses backed in Christchurch last week for the New Zealand Cup were Wimmera and Kopu. The New Zealand pony Moonlight, by fc'an Reno—Moonlight, waß sold in Melbourne recently for 230 guineas.
Last week Bliss was rejponfiible for one of the best mile gallops ever recorded at Hastings. Her victory in the King Edward Handicap yesterday was consequently anticir.ated by many Hawke'a Bay sportsmen. Kopu will probably be ridden in the New Zealand Cup by T. O'Brien. The San Fran gelding's running at Hastings yesterday was very creditable, and he will now be in favour for the New Zealand Cud. Mr E. J, Watt's Australian bred filly by Positano—Circe has been named Perseis, She is one of T. Qumlivan's team. Next week races will be held at J Otaki, Albury, Napier Park and i Cunedin. For the Twenty-First Challenge Stakes, to be run at the Canterbury meeting in 1913, Mr W. E. Bidwill -, has nominated Aviation, Submersion. Vocation, Exertion, Ovation, Tribulation, and Distinction. Provocation was taken through to Hastings in company with Tribulation. On Monday morning he put up a good gallup with Bunfa'urc, proving too good for the latte. Tawhaki, the full brother to Armlet, who has proved a disappointment up to the present litre, is being treated to a course of swimming near Duntain. (The Press Association neglected to send the results of the Marlborough races to Masterton yesterday.) .
