MASTERTON RACING CLUB.

MEETING uF STEWARDS. The monthly meeting of .Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club was held on Saturday afternoon, there being present Messrs C. F. Vallance (in the chair), J. loms, J. Cress, D. Donald, W. Cooper, F. Dorset, J. Macara, A. J. Welch, D. Caselberg, 0. C. Cooper, D. McLachlan, R. Buick, G. H. Yates, and W. Piatt. Mr A. E. Whyte forwarded gentlemen rider certificates for E. Buick and Erl Williams. The resignation' 3of F. A. Sheath and A. C. Major, who have left the district, were accepted. It wa3 decided that Mr l J ryor Gilbert be engaged to sell race books on terms to be arranged. ; The Minister of Internal Affairs forwarded a totalisator permit for the 28th and'29th October, 1910. Mr G. H. Say well wrote, stating that he would send a detective and constables to attend the Masterton races.

Ihe General Manager of Railways wrote, stating that he could not see his way clear to reduce the charge for a special train from the racecourse to Featherston.

Inspector Ellison notified that he would send a detective and constables to attend the races.

Some discussion took place upon a proposal to increase the charge for admission to the outside of the course from one shilling to two shillings.— Mr D. Caselberg moved, and Mr Buick seconded, that the charge for admission to the outside of the course be increased from Is to 2s. — Mr D. McLachlan opposed the resolution, but, on a vote being taken, it was carried. The charge for admission will now be 7s 6d for the saddling paddock and 23 for admission to the course.

Officials were appointed to attend to the various duties on the course on the day of the races. The reports of the ground and catering committees were adopted. The treasurer reported a debit balance at the bank of £402 9s lid. The secretary was authorised to make arrangements for the necessary refreshments for Steward 3 for the coming meeting. It was decided to engage the services of Private Detective Walden, as heretofore. One new member was elected.
