VETERINARY SCIENCE.
The offer made by Mr Quinnell, M.R.C.V.S., to visit Masterton and conduct classes in veterinary science in connection with the Technical School, is worthy of every consideration. If there is one branch of knowledge more than another which is of use to the young man who intends following rural pursuits, it is that pertaining to the scientific treatment of dumb animals. The district at the present time, thanks to the parsimony of our paternal Government, is without the services of a veterinarian. It is true that the officers of the Stock Department give every assistance to farmers which is in their power, and that in cases of urgency the services of a. veterinarian may be obtained from Wellington. But this is quite insufficient. The farmer himself should be instructed in the treatment of the ail-
ments which are common to animals. If a class were 6tarted in connection with the Masterton Technical School there can be little doubt but that it would be liberally patronised.
