An Auckland telegram states that Ward, of Lancashire, has been engaged as coach by the Auckland Cricket Association.
The many friends of the Very Rev. Dean McKenna, who is at present recruiting his health in Napier, will be pleased to learn that he is making very satisfactory progress. The Rev. Dr. Nisbet, pastor of First Church, Dunedin, died somewhat suddenly on Wednesday night. He had only returned on Saturday from a visit to Australia.
Mr Alexander James Willis, until recently clerk to the Executive Council, died on Wednesday at his home at Island I3wy, at the age of eightythree.
At a meeting of the Hawke's Bay Presbytery yesterday, it was unanimously decided to nominate the Rev. P. B. Eraser, of Lovell's Flat, •Otago, as the Moderator of the next General Assemblv.
Mr J. C. Fowler, organiser of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, is at present in the Pahiatua district.
Mv John Payne, of the ThompsonPayne picture proprietory, arrived in Masterton yesterday afternoon. The Rev. C .E. Porter, recently cf Masterton, but now of Manaia, Diet with a painful accident last week through falling from a bicycle, lie received some nasty abrasions, and was unable to take the service on Sunday. Mr C. C. Cox, who for several seasons past Avas a prominent member of the Masterton Lawn Tennis Club, and who was recently transferred to Dannevirke, has been appointed Treasurer of the Dannevirke Lawn Tennis Club. The death occurred at Hannui, in the Alfredton district, on Wednesday, of Mrs Catherine Morris. Deceased, who was 79 years of age, arrived at Dunedin-just'fifty years ago, and resided at Sawyer's Bay for < thirty-five years., She leaves a family of eight, one of whom is Mrs Henry Burling.
Yesterday afternoon, at the residence of Mrs H. Richards, Cole Street, a kitchen tea was given to Miss Hetty Robins, on the occasion of her approaching marriage. About forty guests were present, and Miss Robins was the' recipient of many handsome and useful presents. Musical items were rendered by the Misses Iggulden, Tait, N. Robiiis, Miller and Richards (2). Dainty refreshments were provided by the hostess.
