PONGAROA.
At the monthly meeting of the Akitio County Council, held at Pougaroa on Saturday last, the chairman (Mr J. W. Murray) was appointed a delegate from the Council to visit Wellington with a deputation from the Masterton-Waipuku-rau railway league. This deputation is to wait upon the Prime Minister with a view of furthering matters in connection with the proposed railway. On the 22hd inst. the Rev. L. Thompson and Rev. C. Mill met the Managers of the Presbyterian Church, and afterwards there was a congregational meeting, ending with tea and cake. The visiting ministers expressed their approval at the work that was being done in this charge, which is a very large district, there being thirteen out-sta-tions.

A stone crusher is to be brought in within a fortnight, and one grader is already at work, and the other starts almost immediately. Carterton. Mr M. Lavery has resigned his position as Councillor, and an election to fill the vacancy is to be held on October 22nd.
The final game in the United Friendly Societies' card tournament was played on Wednesday evening, when the Foresters defeated theOddfellows by 21 games to 19. Bro. Geo. Bowles presided at the quarterly summoned meeting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., on Wednesday evening, when the report of the directors' meeting held in August, at Wellington, was received. Its contents disclosed a new rule wherein a fund has been established for providing an increased funeral benefit, to be contributed towards according to the age of the member,' being worked out on the graduated scale. Several members have decided to avail themselves of the increased benefits. It was decided to procure some new re-, galia. Court Marquis of Normanby, A.0.F., will be represented by Bro. A. F. Pink at the District Meeting to be held in Wellington.
