AMUSEMENTS.

VALDARES* ENTERTAINERS. !

' It is some time since we have had a visit from a really good vaudeville combination, therefore the season of Valdares' Entertainers in,the Town Hall commencing to-morrow evening should be welcome. Many playgoers will remember..the. sensation created by these famous trick cyclists when they performed here, spme j eight years ago. They then number-] ed three, now they are ,four, ( whichj enables a number of most intricate tricks to be performed. A southern paper says: ' 'The Valcjare quar-' tette of trick cyclists were the sensation of the evening. Their skilful evolutions elicited frequent spontan-, equs outbursts of hearty applause.] They rode single wheel machines,; clambered three high on one bicycle,: turjied . and accomplished "i;ne"'seemingly "impossibly with consummate ease. The riding of a bug-, gy'wheel at Still tilt down a flight'' of] Stairjs is,a striking plimax. The Val-i dares are. just what is "claimed of them, 'the best exponents of trick cycling .ever seen in the Dominion.' " The artists engaged to support this clever quartette for the provincial tour are all specialists, and have been in the front rank of vaudeville for . many years. Owing to the Hall being engaged on Wednesday, a visit will be paid to Casterton, and on Thursday a farewell performance will be given here.

TOWN HALL PICTURES. A large crowd of juveniles attended the.free matinee .on.Saturday af> ternoon, to witness an interesting lot of films. In the evening a good attendance witnessed the new programme of pictures. The dramatic films are exceedingly good, as are also the comic • element.' To-night will be the last opportunity of witnessing these splendid films, as the Hall will be otherwise engaged this Aveek.

JOHNSON-KETCHELL. *' At the ?Town Hall on Friday night, under the direction of Messrs MacMahon, the. public of Masterton will have an opportunity of witness.Jyg v this great fight picture. Th'e "' T SaT"'Fraiiciscb dated (October Wm^ ! says';—" After; < U l2 •rounds,. -Johnson, the_ giant Negro heavy-weight, retained the world's championship title by knocking Quit Stanley Ketchell, who has only once known defeat. It was thought that he had a good chance against Johnson. The contest excited enormous interest , throughout the, country, and the box office yesterday took £BOOO.. A cablegram from' Jeffries, expressing his pious hope • that the white man would knock the black man's headj off, was 'read at the ringside, in addition a magnificent series of kinematographic surprises will constitute the first portion of the programme.-THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.

The Foresters' Hall was crowded on Saturday night, the attraction no doubt being an extra, series in conjunction with the fine programme produced the two previous . nights. The South Band, played a programme of music prior to the performance. To-night the usual change of pictures will be presented, and patrons are promised subjects well up to the high standard set by Messrs Thompson and Payne. The dramatic,- story of "Isabella of Aragon" will be re-told in pictorial form. "Who Committed the Crime" is founded on.■■' William Rattray's well-known novel "The Gold-Seek-ers." "A Submarine Tragedy," or the story of the sinking of the "Pulvoise," the French submarine boat, gives faithful views of incidents taken upon the scene of the disaster. Indian life, as shown in moving pictures, have become a favourite subject, and the new series will include a drama entitled "Indian Blood." The comic subjects are'all first-class, and include "Future Guardians of the Peace," "Tontolmi in Love,' and "Calino at the Bar."
