COMPARATIVE ABSENCE OF CRIME.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE.fLast Night, j The Supreme Court sessions opened; to day. Mr Justice Chapman congratulated the district on the comparative absence of crime, and said he had on several occasions lately noted this fact in other parts of New Zealand. The Grand Jury returned no bill in the case of Henry Hartwil!, for alleged false pretences. Annie Love, committed for sentence for forgery and uttering, was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Ereatera Rangiwhaitira pleaded guilty to sheep stealing, and was sentenced to four months' imprisonment.
