LADIES' TOURNAMENT. WON BY HAWKE'S BAY WITH WAIRARAPA SECOND. (By Telegraph—Special to Age.; NELSON, Last Night. Nearly three thousand persons witnessed the conclusion of the Ladies' Hockey Championship Tournament. Hawke's Bay defeated Nebon by one goal to nil, and thereby retained the championship, Wairarapa second, and Nelson third. Wairarapa was the only team in the Tournament that did not suffer defeat, The results of the final day's play were:— Wairarapa 3 v. Wellington A 0. Tai-anaki 3 v. Wellington 80. £ Wanganui 0 v. Greymouth 0, Otago 2 v. Auckland 2. Tne Nelson-Hawke's Bay match was fast and interesting throughout Iu the first spell Nelson held their own against the champions and frequently looked dangerous, but the Hawke's Bay backs displayed a fine defence.
In the second spell the local team tired perceptibly, and play was almost wholly confined to their territory. Stubborn defence was, however, maintained, one goal only being scored. Miss Pitt being responsible,
Wairarapav. Wellington A matcn. —Soon after opening Wairarapa took play to Wellington's circle, Miss Easthope scoring. Later, alter Wellington had been attacking, Wairarapa took play to Wellington's circle. Miss Z. Humphries finding the net. Immediately after the same player missed the net by inches. Miss Gazeley then dribbled from half way and shot Wairarapa's third goal. Passing by A. O'Leary anJ Ashton ended in the latter having a shot, which was missed, At the end of the spel! Miss K. Mcln'osb dribbled through the Wairarapa backs?, anJ had a shot which was missed. Wellington took a turn at attacking, but Misses Z. Humphries and Gazeley put Wellington on the defence. Wairarapa continueud to attack, a dribble by Miss Easthope being stopped by Miss McKellar. From this until the end of play Wairarapa had the better of the play, although no scores were registered.
The Wairarapa team are leaving for home on Tuesday. On Saturday they were presented by the Hawke's Bay team with an enlarged photo of the champions in recognition of their victory over Hawke's Bay Saturday last.
MEN'S HOCKEY
WELLINGTON RETAIN SHIELD. WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the contest for the Hockey Shield, Wellington, the holders, defeated gAuckland by three goals to one after a fast and exciting game. In the opening five minutes, Loader scored for Wellington, and a second i point was added by C Strack. A I I big effort to equaliss the scores towards the end of the first spell saw Mason shoot accurately. G. Strack obtained Wellington's third goal from a penalty bally awarded for obstruction on the part of an Aucklander towards the close of the game.
