THE LAND BILL AND FARMERS.
Although the Farmers' Union, as a body, desires that the freehold option be granted to Crown tenants at the original valuation, plus one per cent., there are not a few of its members who would be disposed to accept the compromise now offered by the Government, provided that a sufficient allowance is made for improvements. The official organ of the Union ventures the opinion that the new Bill will be "better received than its predecessor," though it expresses the hope that some of its objectionable features will be eliminated in Committee.
