TURF NOTES.
Mr A. Keside's St. Ambrose— | Zisca filly has been put into work at Opaki. This filly is a fairly well grown and shapely lady, and moves in a free style on the tracks. At Opaki on Thursday morning a fair number of horses were out on the tracks. Half pace work was eHotted Sunbonnet, Osiris, Tumut, The Flier, [Aberration, The Workman -Pikihuia mare, Afterthought, Sir Solo, Embrocation, Vite, Kiltie Lass, Aimwell, Gaelic, Merrie Emerald, Sir Laddo coir, Rose Herald, St. Ambrose filly, and Pukewai. Moloch put in once round at half pace arid another at about threequarter apeed, pulling up well.
R. Kuox, the Opaki trainer, has a team of six in work at present. Merrie Rose is showing improvement, and her track work is satisfactory. She raced at the Mar ton meeting this week, but probably he condition is not yet solid enough for her to cope with the horses that have recently shown winning form. In the Crofton Handicap, however, her chance was spoiled,, by getting entangled in the barrier tapes. Rose Herald is fining down nicely, and will soon be ready to race, while Lucretius is looking luslv and muscular, The Merrie England gelding is hardening up nicely, and will be able to show his form at the Masterton meeting next month. Merrie Emerald is in forward condition, and with ordinary luck should wiu races during this season. The colt by Sir Laddo—St, Leger mare, half brother to Curenagb, Gaelic, and Rose Herald, has grown up considerably during the winter, and is now a fine stamp of a racehorse. He may not be one to ( race early, but it will be surprising if he does not prove a success on the turf in due course. In the trainer's paddocks'are three juvenile thoroughbreds. A brown colt by Kilcheran— Platypus is a racing stamp He is bred on winning lines and judging by his ganie appearnce he should have a successful future. A chestnut by Sir Laddo—Roney, being a motherless foal, is not well grown, but of course shows quality. A chestnut by Conqueror—St. Leger mare ia a
speedy looking customer, and in due time should be a worthy addition to the stable.
M. T. McUrath has six horsey in work just now. Tumut and Osiris were spelled during the winter, and having only recently been put into work will not be ready to race early in the season. Sunbonnet is galloping freely on the tracks, and will soon be in racing condition, while First Consul showed winning form at the recent Hunt Club meeting. The Flier will be benefited by his racing nt the same fixture, and Aberration is looking very well for the time of the year.
