SUDDEN DEATH IN MASTERTON.

MAN EXPIRES,FROM HEART DISEASE."

A painfully sudden death occurred iu Masterton shortly before 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr Henry S. Stanhope, employed as a hairdresser by Mr U. Corbett, of Queen Street, complained about noon that he lelt pain in the region of the heart. Mr Corbett suggested that he was suffering from indigestion, and he concurredfin.the suggestion, stating that he had had eggs for breakfast. A few minutes after noon he left on his bicycle for his home in Villa Street. On arrival there he complained to his son that he was feeling ill. He took some salts and some carbonate of soda, thinking that these would re lieve him, but, as he still felt bad, he went to his room to lie down. After partaking of hb midday meal, the son went to the room,, and was shocked to find his father apparently dead. Dr. Cowie was immediately summoned, but, on his arrival, could only pronounce life extinct. The cause of death was apparently heart disease. The deceased, who was 58 years of age, was a widower. He came to Masterton early in the year from Sydney. The only son he has in New Zealand was living with him, and is employed by Mr Hughes, hairdresser.
