BRITAIN AND GERMANY RIVALRY. DREADNOUGHT DESTROYERS. Received Last Night, 10.10 o'clock. BERLIN, September 5.
The newspaper Vorwaerts states that Britishers and Germans are working feverishly on models of a monitor intended for the destruction of Dreadnoughts. The cruiser, will be 280 fee* n length, with a beam of 46ft and a draught of 20ft above the water-line.
It will have five feet of armaments, and two 16.7 guns, carrying a projectile of 5940 pounds. It will have a single turret amidships, turning in all directions. The normal speed of the monitor will be 19 knots,-and in forced draught 27 knots. It will be driven by four motors, each of 6000 hoise power.
The cost will be considerably less than the cost of Dreadnoughts, and it will prove invulnerable to twelveinch fire.
