CARTERTON.
Mr J. B. Merrett, of Chriatchurch, arrived from Auckland yesterday af ternoon, and in the evening gave an address in the Fire Brigade Hall with the object of forming an Egg Circle.
The Kiwi Ladies' Hockey Club at Dalefield, who were runnerß up for the championship, are holding a ball on September Bth, to wind up the season. Next year the Club hope to annex the championship. Constable Carmody, who has been absent on sick 'leave, returned to Carterton yesterday afternoon, and resumes duty to-day. His friends are pleased to see him so much improved.
The ladies of Parkvale ['are arranging a ball, which will eventuate in about a fortnight's time. ■ The Methodist Band of Hope held a pleasant gathering in the schoolroom ou Tuesday evening, when a very entertaining programme was contributed, and appreciated by a large audience. Mr Bridges, organiser for the No-License League.gave a very interesting address. The local Brass Band has received the promise of a grant of £lO per annum from the Borough Council, and the Band is expected to give five open air performances during the year.
Mr Percy Hill, late of Wellington, has taken over the local aerated water and cordial factory in Belvedere Street.
A holiday, from 11 a.m., is to be observed in Carterton on October 27th, the occasion of the People's Day of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society's annual Show.
