CORONER'S INQUEST.

SOME REMARKABLE EVIDENCE.

SYDNEY, August 31.

The City Coroner opened an inquest to-day on the body of the girl O'Brien, which was recently found on the sandhills.

The Government analyßt, who had examined the stomach of the deceased, deposed that it contained ergot and traces of an unknown drug. The examination is not completp.

The mother of deceased and Nurse Roe gave evidence that they were not aware that the girl was in

trouble.

Mri Nock deposed that cn the day of Miss O'Brien's didappearanee she (witne°s) was at Nurse Brown's, when a young lady came in and went upstairs with the aurse. Shortly afterwards Nurse Brown came down and said the girl had fainted. Witness helped to carry her on to the balcony. Nurse Brown then sent her with a message to Nurse Roe's. Witness saw no more ot the girl. On the following Wednesday she saw Nurse Brown at the races. Brown told her they had put the girl on the sandhills. Witness remarked. "How cruel!" Nurse Brown replied: "It was better to put her there than to throw her over the cliffs, as the girl's father and mother wanted."
