CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER
THREE MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT.
Received Last Night, 8.50 p.m SYDNEY, August 31,
In the Criminal Court, Arthur Lloyd was formally charged with the manslaughter of his five year old child, which had died with diphtheria while under Christian science treatment.
Accused, in the course of his statement, said he was not a Christian Scientist, but had faith in them, and believed that his little boy's leg, which had been amputated, would grow again. The scientist who was treating the child had advised the accused to get a doctorfto diagnose the case.
The deceased's mother stated that her husband and nerself had been preparing to become Christian Scientists, but that they had no faith in them now.
A verdict of guilty was returned, with a strong recommendation to mercy on the ground that the accused had fceen the dupe cf another person.
I'he Judge, in Fentercinn Lloyd to three months' imprisonment, stated that he desired to pass sentence to deter others duing as Lloyd had done.
