AMUSEMENTS.

"ALADDIN."

There was an excellent demand for seats on Saturday when the plan was 1 opened for the first and only production of J. C. Williamson's stupendous pantomime extravaganza "Aladdin," which is to be staged at the Town Hall on Wednesday night next. A special feature of "Aladßin" are the musical numbers, of which probably the following are the most popular: "Kindly step this way," and "The top note," Mr Harry Phydora; "My Pyjama Girl," Miss Eva Moore; "Meet me where the lanterns glow," with electric light effects, and "Dear Motherland," assisted by the Boy Scouts and the stupendous electric flag effect, and "Rings on her Fingers," Miss Marie Eaton; "Months and Months and Months," Mr J. M. Campbell; "Just a Love for Someone," sung in the balloon, Miss Nance Maher; "Can't you see I Love," Misses Eva Moore and Marie Eaton; "Hurroo and Hurrah," Mjr Rupert Darrell; "Taxes," a topical song, Messrs Phydora and Campbell; "The Shadow of the Pyramids," Miss 'Lena Ericson. The music for the "fire ballet" was composed by Mr Andrew McCunn, and that for the "Grand March of the Flowers" by Mr Harold Carr. One of the finest stage pictures yet presented in a pantomime is said to be the . grand chrysanthemum fete, the last I scene in the production. Mr Wil-

Hamson's advance army of mechanica and dectiieiana arrived on , Saturday, and they are already at | work preparing Tor Wednesday's | performance. The plan and day sales are at Miss Rive's..

TOWN HALL PICTURES

There was a large attendance at the children's matinee on Saturday after- . noon, when the contestants in the ] Beauty . Competition were screened ! for the benefit of the children. In the evening another large audience greeted the change of programme. The "star" dramatic film, "The Dancing Girl of Butte," is a very pathetic story. "Tne Heroine of Mafeking" is also a fine military drama. "The Magic of Love" is a film which shows how billiards should be played, and the audience is taught some of the finer points of the game. The other films, which comprised scenery, comedy, industry, and art, n.ade up.a very enjoyable evening's; entertainment. The Beauty Competition, which has been creating a good deal of enthusiasm, will close on Saturday night. The following is the voting to date:—No. 34, 60 votes; No. 4, 59 votes; No. 22, 43 votes; No. 51,26 votes; No. 32, 24 votes; No. 23, 21 votes; Nos. 18 and 54, 20 votes; Noe. 33 and 48, 18 votes; Nos. 13, 47, 52 and 53. 17 votes; Nos. 1 and 25, 16 votes ;No9. 2 and 36, 15 votes; No. 24, 14 votes; No. 19, 13 votes; No. 3 9 votes; Nos--14, 15 and.l 6, 4 votes; Nob. 26 and *l. 3 votes; Nos. 17, W, 21, 27, 28. 30, 42, 43, 49, 2 votes; Nos. 5, 6, 8, 11, 35, 1 vote.

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. The usual change of pictures will be presented at the Foresters'. Hall to-night. Mr John Payne has made special arrangements, at great expense, whereby he has secured the first pick of the film markets, and his agents have instructions to send nothing but the absolutely best obtainable. The series for to-night is well up to standard. "As it is m Life" is the latest production by the American Biograph Company in their Eagle series, and seveial thousands of pigeons are introduced which play no small pait. "The Story of Esther," "A.Light Heart is Better than Riches," and "Sons of the Soil," are dramatic subjects that should prove popular. A tine scenic subject is to be shown entitled "A Phantom Ride Aux de Bains." This programme is exceptionally strong^ in comic pictures, among which are "A Marrow Escape," "Police Women," "JBroken China," "Table de hote Acquaintances and "Foolshead's Distractions."
