MAURICEVILLE WEST.

The settlers at Mauriceville West gathered on Monday evening, in the old school, to do honour to Mr C. Pedersen, and in some: small measure show their appreciation of his long, service as Director of the Dairy Company. Mr Pedersen has now served twenty years as a director of the Dairy Company, and about twelve of these as its chairman. Durr ing all that time he has been a most active worker, and his various qualities have found plenty of opportunity for a vigorous exercise, and have been called into requisition from time to time, and the community; has undoubtedly been very fortunate in having among its settlers a man of Mr Pederaen's ability, tact, and forethought, and the willingness to give it for the public good. . During the evening, songs, recitations, and music, interspersed with "little talks," were given, and the guest was presented with a handsome solid-made "easy chair," a sil-ver-mounted walking stick, and a Meerschaum pipe. The hope was expressed that these "little things" would in after years, beside being a comfort, remind the "old warrior" of the days gone by. Mr Pedersen suitably responded. The inevitable tea and refreshments were served, and a pleasant evening was spent.
