LAND AND IMMIGRATION.
HOW THE* DO THINGS IN WESTRALIA.
A Masterton resident has just received an interesting communication from his brother, who resides in Western Australia. It appears that in that State exceptional facilities are being offered to people to settle upon the land. The writer says:— "Our Government offers the most liberal terms of any of the States, and our land is second to none. I know of ever so many cases where fellows have, after three or four years, paid for everything—land, stock and improvements—and are now well on the way to comparative wealth. One exceptional case came before my notice only a week or two ago. A young fellow with only £lO capital took up land two years ago. Under our conditions, the State Agricultural Bank advances money to settlers as they improve the property. This chap set to work and cleared 40 acres, and was paid for the work by the Bank. The next year he put in a crop, and, as a result, he got a record harvest, was able to buy two horses and a plough, and has £SO in the Bank."
