Stowell, The Fire Brigades' long-night dance on Thursday promises to ba a most successful function. Visitors are expected from as far off as Greytown. The Featheraton Town Board has baen collecting a £4O license fee from local hotelkeepers, It now finds that it was only empowered to collect £25, and it will consequently have to make a refund. The hotelkeepers are naturally jubilant. The Board is not. Miss Annie Donald, daughter of Mr Adam Donald, formerly of Featherston, but now of Wellington, was married recently to Mr A. H. White, of "Te Hopai," Hawke's Bay.

CARTERTON. The fortnightly meeting of the Methodist Band of Hope was held on Tuesday night, when there was a good attendance. An interesting address was given by Mr J. T. M. Hornshy, on "The present day mode of pronunciation." Constable Carmody has returned to duty after a health recruiting trip. Influenza is very rife in Carterton , just now, and several residents are laid low with it.

MAURICEVILLE. Dairy farmers are busijy preparing for the opening of the dairy season. It is expected that there will be an increased supply of milk this year compared with last. Lambs may now be seen frisking 1 about on Eeveral properties in the Mauriceville district. They appear to be fairly healthy. Residents of Mauriceville Eaat are being given an opportunity nn Thursday evening of witnessing the Town Hall Pictures, which are reported to be so popular in Masteiton. There is an abundance of grass in this district, and settlers generally are in good heart.
