M* ; Robert Hanrab, pf Welling- '.•"",■■ wis a visiror to Mastertoh yesterday.-■ . ''."'..'• •-..'. /" Mr Corns Jobns!on, an 'evangel-'.' ist, weirknown in Mast erton, died at- Wellington dri Sunday; Mr ; Joseph J. Guest, formerly of Masjrerton, but now of the Chatham Elands, will probably be retnrning to New Zealand at an early date^ Mr Arthur G. Wis3, of Masterton, has been appointed to an important position on the staff of the Dominion newspaper. Mr 'John Fraser. late Government Land Valuer for Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa, arrived in Masterton yesterday. It is Mr Fraser's intention to take up his residence in Maaterton. A cablegram received from Sydneyyesterday announced the death of Mrs Perston, formerly a resident of Masterton and Carterton'. The deceased lady was the mother of>Mr A. R. Perston,. formerly of this town, but now of New South Wales. ' A London cablegram, received last night, states: —The Army wishes the body of Miss Florence Nightingale to be buried in Westminster Abbey, bat this is unlikely. Finegan, who* was her orderly in the Crimean War.'died to-day." It now appears that Bishop Neligan's health has been in an unsatisfactory state for some time past. Last year he had more than one breakdown, and in May of the present year he had a "stroke." This, last development was of course the most serious facto;*. The doctors called it "transient paralysis," butthey let the Bishop know unmistakably that very grave consequences might follow if he persisted in doing the hard work and bearing great responsibility connected with the episcopal office in a large and scattered diocese like that of Auckland. However, as the Bishop is not yet 50 years old, there is good reason to hope that after a year or so of rest or quiet work he will again be able to take up the more strenuous work attached to a position of leadership in the Church.
