MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ORDINARY MEETING.

The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening, there being present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradiue), and Councillors J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, T. Hoar, W. Pragnell, J. C. Ewington', W. Morris. An apology for absence was ■' <- ceived from Cr. Rigg, who also asked for, and was granted, two months' leave of absence. Leave of absence was also granted to Cr. Prentice. The report of the Committee meeting held on August 2nd was • adopted. Accov.-.fcs amounting to £569 lis 4d, all in connection with'the Gasworks, were passed for payment. The secretary of the Masterton A. and P. Association asked permission' to > tap .the watermain at Fleefc :' Street with a *Mneh pipe to supply / water, tq the -Sol way Showgrounds; v»: y->' He also asked that the Borough staff make the necessary connection at the Association's expense. On the motion of Cr. Ewington, the ap- : plication was granted, although Cr., Morris expressed the opinion that a , 3-iiich supply was altogether out of reason.

A letter was read from Mr C. A. Tabuteau,. on behalf of a. client, asking for a lease of the tea kiosk in the Park, for use as tea-rooms. The Mayor and several Councillors thought the application should not be entertained. Cr. Temple was of opinion that the kiosk might be utilised as a caretaker's residence.— , The.Mayorraoved that the application be declined, and this was carried. -

Mr R. C.
