MASTERTON TO WAIPUKURAO
Settlers in this district have to thank Mr R. B. K s-\ M.P. for having reminded the Minister for Public Works that the agitation for the construction of a light Hop railway between Masterton and Waipukurau is not quite dtai. The Mrn istry seems to have set its face against undertaking any fresh railway enterprises for the present. It is desirous of completing the lines already" in hand before pledging.itself 'to new works. It should remember, however, that the success or otherwise of its land settlement scheme depends largely upon the facilities offered back-block settlers for getting their produce to market The vaßt area of country lying between Mastertbn and Waipukurau will never be fully productive until direct access is given to markets. The sooner this aspect of the question is borne horns to Ministeri, the better Will it be for the Dominion.
