TOWN HALL PICTUERS
The change programme, which is to be presented at the Town Hall Pictures ths afternoon and evening, possesses quite a number of attractive features. The "star" film, 'The Mexican's Revenge," is one of the most exciting Ameiican dramas that has reached New Zealand, and wherever it has been shown it has created intense enthusiasm. Other dramatic items possessing more than ordinary merit are " The Legend of the Good Knight," "Electra," and ' "Their Son's Medal." A fine scenic film willpourtray life in Shanghai, and another will describe the "Oasis of Sidi TJaid." The comic films are of a more than usually humourous j character, and include the antics of a rheumatic bridegroom. "The! Balloonist," "An Escaped Snake" and "Good Boy Hector." Nominations fur the children's beauty competition, for which substantial I prizes are offered, close to-d&y Over thirty ph'-tographs had reached the management up till yesterday, and it is expected that the number will be considerably increased by tonight. The. voti g by the audience will commence as soon as the necessary plates are prepared.
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES, i The att nd'ance at the Foresters Hall last night exceeded al! expecta- ' tions, and the pictures were shown , ! in Messrs Thompson and Payne's usual finished manner. A fine picture, which may bi cjr.sidered a go<id rival to the Rotnrua thermal , region?, depicts "The Volcanoes ani Ciaters ot the Oceanic," th 9 various ■ geyser?, steam-holes, boiling lava ] and an awe inspiring place called the "Death H(.le." These ate shown very clearly, having been" photographed from the windward b cause of tha escaping sUam. The military rtrarna, "Ranson's Folly," was again highly appreciated, and the joung officer whose jjke so nearly cost him ' his honour and life had the sympathy ot r]'. The ever popular "Oliver Twist" was well represented. The comic subj-cta are above the average a- laugh producers, especially "Coco m Earthquakes," some astoundkg mechanical effect? being introduced.
