PRICE OF FAT LAMBS.

)To the Editor.) Sir,—l notice a report in your paper that the farmers in the Wairarapa are of the opinion that the prices of fat lambs will be a good deal better than last year. It is asked, "hew will it aft'ecs the Far-

mers' Company?" Suisly the farmers in the Wairarapa will see through the private company's little game. I should liKe to tell you what will be putting up the price of lambs —not the London market, but the smoke of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company. Here are a few reasons why we will support our comWe have not forgotten the price offered t for lambs laat season—eight and nine shillings, which was all that was given until a Canterbury firm put in its representative to buy. Result—Up went lambs a shilling par head. (2) If the farmers let the firea go out, they can bet their farms on it that we shall have the same thing happen as ! incurred fc two year3-ago, which was ! that the companies took onlv the very tops, not being able to cope with the supply. (3) We are bound to have some c.i.f. buyers in the district when our brand becomes known. (4) We are going to try and get a fat stock market when we move to Solway, so that when buyers for fat sheep know that tiny can freeze them practically at the yards, they will come and buy. If you let the fires out, you can say good-bye tu the fat stock sale. (5) We must not forget that the buyers allow a couple of pjund3 for waste on lambs going to Wellington; two pounds per Jamb saved. We also get a numher of bruised sheep by trucking them, which can now be avoided. I should like to ask the farmers in the Wairarapa why they do not send their fat lambs and sheep Home on their own account. They send their wool. Why not their lambs and sheep? Just remember what Mr Buchanan said, and mind you, he is a director and lsrge shareholder i'd the Wellington Export Co. He said, "I never sell; I ship on my own account." He knows—he knows —where the profit lies. I am, etc., SUCCESS TO THE MEAT COMPANY.
