TRADE UNIONS.
SOCIALISTIC DOMINATION OBJECTED 10.
Received August 11, 11.10 p.m LONDON, August 11
The Chronicle says the Osborne Judgment is threatening the whtle fabric of labour representation. There are two remedies—an Act legalising compulsory levies, or payment of Members. Tha Liberals ate far irfim unanimous, and ask for a measure legalising levies. Some labour leaders fear ,the payment of Members may impair the solidity of the labour movement since discipline depends upon the power to bring a contumacious member into line by stopping big salary. The Commons are unlikely to lightly pass legislation which four judges have declared contrary to public policy, and subversive of rtpresentative vgovernment. Moreover, there are deepseated differences in the Trades Union themselves. It would be a master stroke tu secure through'the Labour Party the possibility of financing a Socialist propoganda with Trade Union funds, but the vast majority of Trade U&ionists resent Socialist domination. The Chronicle urges Labourites to adopt payment of Members. '
