MASTERTON LAWN TENNIS CLUB.
ANINUAL meeting. The' twenty-ninth annual meeting of the Masterton Lawn Tennis Club was held in the Technical Schol yesterday afternoon,and was attended by between twenty and thirty members. The PresHent of the Club, the Very Rev. Dean McKenna, occupied the chair, and in mowing the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, made uongratulaHry reference to the progress of the Club during the past year, specially complimenting the secretary, Mr A. R. Sclanders, upon the satisfactory position of the finances. Mr D. Caselherg seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Tiie election of officers was then proceeded with, aid the Very Rev. Dean McKenna was unanimousl? reelected President, notwithstanding strong protest from himself against loldiDg the office continuously. On the motion of Mr A. R. Sclaniets, seconded by Mr G. G. Aitken, Messrs A. R. Bunny and N. D. Bunting, referred to as the "busy sees," were unanimously elected vice presidents of the Club. Mr Bunting, who replaces Mr C. U Cox in this office, briefly thanked the (members for the compliment paid aim, and stated that as long as he Delonged to the Club he would endeavour to keep its best interests it heart. Eight members were nominated for :he office of committee of management, and on a ballot being taken the Following were declared elected:Messrs D. Caselberg, N.'H. James, j. G. Aitken, J. B. Sclanders was unani-1 nously elected secretary, a position which members admitted he had filled uapably and tactfully during the past ' two years. Mr G. C. Summerell was re-elected ' ion. auditor.
The motion of Mr H. M. Boddington, of which notice had beeiv given, to air :nd the Club's rules so as to provide for playing members only having the right to vote on questions concerning the affairs ot the Club, was seconded by Mr D, Caselberg, and, after being fully discussed, was put to the meeting and lost. On the motion of Mr D. Caselberg, a resolution: was carried that three* delegates from the Club be appointed to meet three delegates from the Dannevirke Club and confer with them with the object of so arranging matters as to prevent tbe clashing of the annual open tournaments at present held by both clubs on the 22nd and 23rd January. Hearty votes of thanks to Miss HolmwoocJ, who acted as ladies' secretary durirs the past year, and to the ladies who had dispensed afternoon tea during the playing season, were carried by acclamation. On the motion of Mr Sclanden, seconded by Mr Aitken, it was unanimously resolved to plnce on record tbe eminent services rendered by Mr C. C. Cox, since transferred to Dannevirke, not only to the Masterton Tennis Club, but to tennis generally, in the Wairarapa, tbe Provincial District, and the JJuminion at large. The annual report was as follows : '*Your committee have much pleasure in presenting the following report on the working of the Club during the past season. The membership shows a decrease of fifteen, being 145 as against 160 for the previous season. The balance-sheet again displays an improved position, the balance of assets over liabilities now being £l4O 5s Id as against £lll 17s lid on August Ist, 1909. Our profit for the year is therefore £29 7s 2d, and our position has improved in the past two years to the extent of £53 17s lud. On January 22nd and 24th the Club's tiiteenth annual open championship and handicap meeting was held, and was again a success, in spite of a falling off in entries and gate rej ceipts. The thanks of the Club are . due to the iollowing for donations to | the Trophy Fund:—Messrs N. D. Bunting, J. B. Mcodie, D. Caselberg, J. Caselberg J. Paytoo, A. C. Major, A. B. Lawrence, C. C. Cox, N. H. James, J. V. Gordon, E. J. Mirams, W. H. Cruickshank, Rev. Dean McKenna, W.F.C.A., Ltd., E. W. Mills and Co. Ltd, J. Duthie and Co., Ltd., A. Henderson and P. Dupre. Durmg the season club matches were played against Dannevirke, drawn; Pahialua, won; Eketahuna, two, both' woh; Woodville, lost; and Carterton, won. Our Country Cup Team secured first place in the Wairarapa centre, but unfortunately the final against the Fielding team could not be arranged owing to lack of time." The balance sheet showed that the tjtal receipts for the year amounted to £2Ol 10s 7d, whilst the disbursements for the same period amounted to £173 3s sd. The Bank overdraft had been reduced during the year from £6B 2s Id to £39 14b lid. The liabilities at the end of the ye?r amounted to £334 14s lid, and the assets, including grounds and im provements, were valued at £475. Votes of thanks to the outgoing officers and the chairman terminated a most successful meeting.
