SHEEP FAIRS.

There is little doubt that Mr William Perry was speaking chiefly from a breeders' standpoint when he suggested at the annual meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association the holding of stud sheep fairs in different parts of the Dominion. It is not too much to say, however, that if the proposal were adopted it would benefit the settler in almost the same ratio as it would the breedsr. Under existing circumstances in the North Island flock and stud rams are brought privately, as a rule, with the result that neither the vendor nor the purchaser is always satisfied. If the sheep were sold at a properlyadvertised and well-regulated fair, similar to those held in the Old Country, breeders would have the benefit of the competition, whilst settlers would derive a distinct advantage from having a wide field for selection. It is to be hoped that the suggestion made by Mr Perry will receive that consideration at the" hands of the various Asociationa interested, which its importance deserves.
