FURTHER CRISIS.

A further crisis in the shipbuilding trad? is thre.taned, Clyde workmen having demanded the restoration of live per cent, in the piece rates and a shilling weekly in the ! time rates taken from them in 1908. A bal ot, by an overwhelming majority, rejected the masters' counter proposals to grant an advance in October next if 70,000 persons, exclusive of apprentices, are being employed.
A LOCK-OUT.
i SIXTY THOUSAND MEN IDLE. "GENERAL STRIKE FEARED. Received August 9, 12.20 a.m. LONDON, August 8. The shipbuilding yard resolved to a lockout of sixty per cent, of | the men, amounting to 60,000 hands, as a consequence of their demands for a reduction of from fifty-six to fifty three hours weekly, and an increase in wages of 10 per cent. The men are likely to retaliate by declaring a general strike and forcing the remaining forty per cent, of men to cease work. It is expected that the Imperial yard will support the employers to the extent of not taking un new workmen.
