TE WHARAU NOTES.
From Our Own Correspondent. The weather during the past few duyii has heen goal, and a great improvement on what we have experienced during the past month. The first lamb of the season was seen in one of Mr W. B. Preshaw's BracKenfield paddocks a few days ago. Most of the slip 3on th 3 roads in this district have been cleared, and the roads are once more passable. Mr and Mrs P. C. H. Cotter gave a very enjoyable social evening and dance last Friday to celebrate the opening of Mr Cotter's new store, which is the most up-to-date building of it 3 kind in this district, the workmanship reflecting the greatest credit on the contractor, Mr Keg. Vannel!. A large assemblage of people turned out from all parts of the district, although the weather was unpropitious. Dancing was carried on till daylight and songs were ably rendered by Messrs Ross, Cox, and Pardoe, the latter's selections especially giving great pleasure. Mr V. Richards gave an excellent rendering of "Kissing Cup," which was highly appreciated. Mr J. Spencer gave an excellent exhibition of the Irish clog dance, while cake-walks and hakas were the order of the evening. At the conclusion of the evening's amusement Mr R. Douglass suitably thanked Mr and Mrs Cotter for their [splendid and generous hospitality. Messrs Douglas and Johnson ably carried out the duties of M.'sC. Auld Lang Syne was a fitting conclusion to one of the best evening's entertainment yet held in Te Wharau. The Te Wharau football club expect to play a match against the Gladstone Club next Saturday, when a great contest is anticipated. Mr and Mrs Hockley, of Bunnytnorpe, are at present staying at "Hikorangi." The Misses Johnson, of Parkvale, are visiting at Mrs Cotter's.
