Mr F. Pirani has been re-elected chairman of the Wanganui Education Board. -
Mrs Joseph Caselberg received the sad news on Monday last of the death of her mother.
Mr L. G. Reid, S.M., will arrive in Masterton to-day, and will preside at the Court to-morrow.
The Rev. C, H. Olds, who has been appointed to take charge of the Methodist Church in Masterton, will arrive from Auckland this afternoon.
Mr Frank Pell, well-known in Napier and Qunedin in the early days, died at Aucklacd last week, aged sixty-nine years. Be Was a lieutenant in the Dunedin volunteers for soma years, and filled a similar position in Napier. The deceased Was a crack rifle shot.
Mr P. J. Murphy, who has been a resident of Kohinui for over twenty years, and is an ex-member of the Pahiatua County Council, contemplates removing tc the Auckland district, where he has purchased 1000 acres.
The late Mr Charles Chinnery, who died at St. Albans on Saturday last, was one of the pioneers in the tiaxmilling industry in the Dominion. It was he who patented the stripper which is now in genenl use, and which brought about such a tremendous change in the production of fibre. Mr Chinnery, when in the Old Country, was engaged for some time in the Woolwich Arsenal, and it was probably there that he acquired the mechanical knowledge which he afterwards turned to such good accoutit, He was a recognised authority on flex, and his productions were not only sure of the best markf t price, but they brought him several exhibition awards, notably a gold medal from the Vienna Exhibition.
Yesterday afternoon a very pleasing function took place at "Gleniti," the residence of the Mayoress, Mrs J. M Coracline, when between forty and fifty members of the Methodist LaJies' Guild and friends assembled to say "Good bye" to Mrs Rigg, who is to leave Masttrtcn to reside in Wellington Mrs Kieg has been connected with the Guild for many years, and to her energy much of its success can be attributed. On behalf of the ladies, Mrs Z. M. Hoar, in a neat and appropriate speech, presented a silver entree dish to Mrs Rigg The recipient, in reply, expressed her thanks for the handsome present, and also her regret at leaving so many friends. Dainty refreshments, kindly provided by the hostess, were then pirtaken of, An excellent programme of musical items was contributed by the following:— Mesdames Jackson (reading) G'nok, Sutton, Mansfield, P'-agne'l, Edwards, A. Daniel], and I Misses Jones (2), Perry, Sutton and |G. Dauiell. A hearty vote of thank? was given to Mrs Coradine' for her I hospitality, and a pleasant gathering | whs hrousht to a floss with the sing- ; inK of "Acid Lsng Syne."
