Mr Watson, the general manager cf ih« Paparoa mine, in reply, stated that he was prepared to allow work to be resumed, and let Smeatnn and Harris, the two suspended men, go to work with the rest pending a thor ugh enquiry, which would'be held by a director of the company, but he could not agree to the men's proposal to compensate Smeaton and Hairis, as he was already giving ample concession in permitting them to resume work under the circumstances. This evening the mine manager rrportE that he has heard nothing further from the men, and it is not likely that work will be resumed tomorrow.
