A PASTORAL PRESIDENT.

DUTIES WULL DONE.

EULOGISTIC REFERENCE TO MR SUMMERELL.

At the annual meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association on Saturday afternoon last, eulogistic reference w?s made to the manner in which the retiring president, Mr G. C. Summerell, had carried out his duties. ~.„*" Mr D. McGregor, in moving a vote of thanks to Mr Summerell for his servicee, said that there was a time when reflections were cast upon the Association because they had no businessmen taking a leading part in their affairs, but they had now removed that reproach, and in Mr Summerell they had had a president who had conducted the affairs of the Association on business lines and had lent dignity to the position. The keen interest taken m the Asj sociatnn by Mr Summerell was well known—there was no keener member and no one who more desired to see the Association in the front j rank than their retiring president. 1 "Mr Summerell has carried out his I duties in an excellent manner, reflecting the greatest credit on himself and on the Association," con- ■ eluded Mr McGregor.

Mr J. B.Moodie said that the Association had been fortunate in the matter cf getting presidents', and in Mr Summerell they had been specially fortunat3 in securing a gentleman who was eminently capable of filling the position to the best possible advantage. The motion was earned unanimously. In replying, Mr Summerell said it had been a pleasure for him to preside at the head of the Association. He had done his best to further the objects of the Ass i\t ion He would never have been able to hava carried cut his duties had it not been for the loyal support of the members of tha committee. In conclusion, he desired to thank members generally for the hearty cooperation thuy had given him in nil matters and at all timts.
