CARTERTON NEWS.

Own Correspondent. Friday. It hssToften been said that all the primesl of Wairarapa meat finds its way to the Home market,, and only second grade quality is left for local consumption. This, however, is not the case, aa was plainly shown this evening, and has been

done so on previous occasions, when the old established business of Mr G. W. Ddler made a display of to-morrow's supply of meat, Mr Deller has been engaged in the business here for the past thirty years, during which neriod he has been enabled to procure his stock from the bsst possible places, and is thus enabled to fi ive his customers a good article. The display this evening wss a fine one from every point, and was very artistically arranged by the staff. The bei f was from the farms of Messrs W. Howard Booth, (Carrington), and J. Oates (Clareville); wether mutton from Mr L. Nix (Parkvale), pork from Messrs P. Jamieson and H. Jensen (Matarawa*, veal from Deller and Kemble's (Te Whekei), and poultry from the farm on Moreton Road. A comprehensive display of small goods, embracing everything imaginable to the trade, was also made, being the work of Mr E. A. Beard, and the firm's pork sausages are well-known to Masterton residentp. It was indeed unfortunate that the weather was wet, as man were prevr nfed from seeing the displa through this cause.

The guessing competition in connection with the poultry show resulted in Mr H. Goodin winning, guessing the correct weighr, 23fc lbs, of a bantam, rooster and turkey. Two others, Messrs H. GoodiD, Park Road, and H. Madeley, Ma&terton, guessed the same, and in the draw off Me-srs Gondin's tickets came out first, and second, respectively. Always striving to excel appears to be tne maxim upon which Mr F. Stempa, the well-known butcher of this town works. He recently procured ihe sole rights for the district of-the (Jvirry meat curing system, iiow claims to be able to give cured meat in a very short space uf time. This evening, in response to an invitation, a visit was made to tho shop, where was found a rather un ique and artistically got up display of first-class meat, all fattened by Mr Stempa. Ihe collection r presented all kindf, and the neatly worked fat in t*?o colours was. a treat to see. It was evident that some time and trouble had been given to arraDge the show, and it was a complete denial to the often repeated remark that the best of meat goes out of the dstrict. The small goods would do credit to a city business.
