AUCKLAND, July 20. £ The first match of the British Northern Union Rugby football team was played here to-i-ty against the New Zealand Maori team, in drenching ram, and on a ground that was practically under water. The showing of the English men in these adverse conditions was so good that further matches are being eagerly anticipated, iiuie was an attendance to-day of over 5000. The British 'earn, playing with a strong rn ■ (."-east. wind in the first spell, t,t.oi«.d 23 points lo nil, and wound up by winning by 29 points to nil. Tries were scor.-d by H, Jenkina 4, Kiley, Smith. and Lomas, the latter kicking two penalty goals and converted two tries.
