HOCKEY.
PRESENTATION OF A SHIELD. Te following letter has been received by Mr A. C.-Pragnell, secretary of the Wairarapa Hockey Association Dear Sir, —On behalf of Messrs Thompson and Payne, cinematograph entertainers of Masterton, I have much pleasure in offering a challenge shield for competition betweeij the hockey teams in Mastertou. The shield cannot be won outright, but is to be held by the winning team for one year. To the members of the winning team each season my firm will present a silver medal, the total number of medals which we will give in this respect being twelve each season. The proceeds from these challenge matches to go to the funds of the Association under whose control the contests will be played. . The shield, be it understood, is for competition among Masterton senior teams only, and we should like the Post and Telegraph Club to have the first right to defend it against either Excelsior or Knox.-—Yours faithfully, S. J. PEAKSON, Manager Thompson-Payne Company. Masterton, July 19th, 1910.
