TE WHARAU NOTES.

Own Correspondent, I Tuesday. ! Heavy rain fell here all last week, but cleared up on Saturday, since when the weather has been more like spring. The roads generally are in a bad state after the heavy rain, and it is anticipated that several weeks will pass before ,they can be properly repaired and all slips cleared off. A large gang of men are now at work on the Te Wharau-Flat Point road, which apparently requires first attention. Jackson's Creek, mentioned in last week's notes, has now been posted as unsafe for traffic. Mr and Mrs J. W. McGregor, Hikorangi, who have been on a visit to the South Island, are at present in Wanganui. Mr J. Spence, late of Waitotara, has been appointed, pro tem, lamplighter of Te Wharau. Mr W. Breckin, of England, is at present residing in Te Wharau. Misses Rofe and Goodin, of Carterton, who came out to visit friends, were weather-bound for a week in Te Wharau. Mr and Mrs W. B. Preshaw, of Brackenfield, have left for Napier, where they contemplate spending the remainder of the winter. Mr H. Simpson, of trie Waikato, has taken over the management of Brackenfield in its owuer's absence.

Mr Joi/eg, of Masterfcon, the architect for Mr F. C. H. 'Jotter's new store, and billiard saloon, has been through to-day, inspecting the work. The building will be completed in the course of a few days. Te Wharau will shortly be losing one of its best known citizens, in the person of Mr Geo. Vennell, who will shortly be leaving Longbush district, where it is reported he as taken up land. Mr Vennell will be specially missed by the Te Wharau Rifle Club, of which he was a prominent member. Te Wharau residents generally are looking forward to the excitement of several weddings in the near future, as more than one engagement has been announced in the district.
