HOCKEY GIRLS AND THE WEATHER.

To the Editor. Sir.—Can you tell me why the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Ladies Hockey Association or who ever has control of the matter, compelled the ladies to play their cup matches this afternoon 7 The weather was wretched, and the Men's Association rightly put off their fixtures. I consider it a disgrace that girls should be compelled to play on a day like to-day when the grounds are practically a sea of mud, and heavy showers of rain fall at frequent intervals The Rambler Club of Masterton had to play Dalefield at Carterton, and when they protested against taking the- field on such a wretched day they were told by the secretary, I understand, that they would either have to keep their engagement or forleit. The Ramblers, sooner than forfeit, decided to go down, and endeavoured to get a team together. The parents of three of the girls absolutely refused to allow them to play, and rightly so on such a day. If it- was too wet fcr men's matches, it was certainly too wet for the girls to play. The whole question requires looking into, and the Management Committee or respuhsib'e persons censured, for making the giris keep their hockey engagements in such weather as today. I trust the Association will give this matter their attention. I may also atate that the Hinamoa ladies Club had to travel from C?rterton to play at Masterton. —I am. etc., FAIR PLAY.
