DANNEVIRKE AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
I The balance sheet and report of the Dannevirke District Agricultural and Pastoral Association heiar evidence of tiie good work done by the committee of management. Their first show was held last October and their first financial year, which closed at the end oi »ast mcnth, found the Association With a surplus of assets over liabilities amounting to £433. Agricultural show returns generally result in a loss for their first two or three efforts, and it is gratifying to find Dannevirbe an exception. The members subscriptions and donations amounted to the handsome sum of £555. Of this sum they paid out in prizes £222. Entry fees and privileges brought in £225, and gate money £146. They have close on £2OO to their credit at the Bank and other assets in the shapo of buildings and material amounting to £240, with no , liabilities. On their financial position the Society is to be congratulated, and from the point of view of creating an interest in the improvement of stock the association has , equally scored. The hunters' competitions, back classes, and dairy cattle classes were the best represented, and no doubt in time other classes will bring out competition. The residents are worthy of praise in providing so handsomely for the prize list, and if they keep op their patriotism, they are on the road to permanent success.
