The Wanganui Council of Churches to-night passed a resolution sympathising with the anti-gambling movement, and the effort which is being made to bring about the repeal of the Gaming Act in so far as the iicenisng of bookmakers is concerned.
DEPUTATION AT CHRISTCHURCH. - By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. After hearing a deputation representing the Ministers' Association and the. business men of the. city, asking the Chambar of Commerce to urse the Government to abolish tfre legalised bookmakers, the Chamber agreed lo do so. A res lution containing the expression of opinion that all betting on racecourses and in public streets be made a misdemeanour without the option of a fine, was also carried.
