HOTEL ROBBERY IN WELLINGTON.
YOUNG MAN CHARGED. At the Wellington Magistrate's Court, on Saturday, before ,Mr W. G. Riddell, S. M., James Mclntyre wis charged with stealing from the dwelling of Catherine Mary Futh, of the Hotel Windsor, a quantity of jewellery and 7s in money, tu the total value of £9O, the property of Catherine Mary Firth. According to the police, accused, who is a young man, waa in the habit of loafing about town, doing little or no work. Chief-De-tective Broberg applied for a remand till Wednesday next, and his Worship. accede to this. Bail was allowed in the' sum of £l5O, and two sureties of £l5O each.
Arising out of the same circumstances was a charge against Owen Patrick Brosnahan, who was deemed to be an idle and disorderly, peison, in that he habitually consorted with reputed thieves. Accused pleaded not guilty.
Detective Casaells said that Brosnahan had been "in town" for the past five week?, doing little work except purveying shoddy articles and housebreaking in the suburbs. At 2 p.m. on Friday in company, with Mclntyre, he -was outside the Hotel Windso-, and an hour later Brosnahan was discovered in bed in the hotel. It was mentioned that Brosnahan had nine previous convictions in Dunedio, mainly for breaking and entering, unlawfully pawning, and theft.
His Worship convicted and sentenced bim to three months* imprisonment.
