THE LATE MR PAYTON.
The funeral of the late Mr Joseph Fay ton took place yesterday. The remains were conveyed to St. Matthew's Church, followed by the members of the family, the pall-bearers being members of the staff of tr.e Wairarapa Daily Times, Messrs A. G. Wise, J. B. Hue, W. Smith, R. Sutherland, C. Redman, and L. Williams, the remainder of the staff fol-
lowing. There was a very lengthy cortege, settlers being present from many parts of the province. The impressive ' funeral service waa commenced at the Church and 1 completer! at the grave by the Rev. | H. Watson. A large number of floral wreaths, testifying to the esteem in which deceased was held, were larl upon the giave. Amongst those prrsent were —Mr P. C. Freeth (New Zealand Times), Mr Jas. Brown (Wairarapa Age), Mr W. F, Koyahouse (Wairarapa Daily New?), Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., Mr Chas. Haines (Wellington), and Rev. J. Patterson (Wellington), the Mayor, Town Cl.rk, and members of the Borough Council, members of the County Council and other local buJies.
