Messrs Lovei and Allan have bought the Marlborough Herald, one of the Blenheim newspapers. The illness of Mr Robert Smith, of Onslow Park, Pabiatua, is causing his friends some concern. Mr P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, who went to Grey mouth to deal with a typographical dispute, reports that it has been satisfactorily settled. Mr W. H. Ferris has been appointed chief hemp grader for the Dominion. He has been engaged in the industry for 25 years. Mr F. J. Heatley, M.A., M.Sc, at present in the secondary department of the Stratford High School, has been appointed technical organiser to the Taranaki Education Board. The Rev. C. W. J. Maclaverty, formerly curate of St. Peter's, Wellington, who is leturnmg from England, is to be placed in charge of the Martinborough parish, in succession to the Kev. Mr Bond, appointed vicar of St. Thomas', Wellington South. Lord Ranfurly, formerly Governor of New Zealand, and Lady Ranfurly will in all probability pay a visit .to New Zealand towards the end of the year. Lord Ranfurly will make I a business visit to Australia, and will only be able to spend a fortnight in New Zealand
Mr J. J. Grealish, ot the Evening Post, a" very popular"Wellington pressman, has been elected president of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, with Mr R. P. Bell (Dunedin Star) as vice-chairman. The genial face of Mr W. D. Lusty, of the New Zealand Herald, who was president last year, is missing from the gallery this ses- ! sion, and at their annual meeting the members passed a hearty vote of i thanks to him for his past services.
